About me
My name is Amy Lieberman and I am a senior Early Childhood Education major at Elizabethtown College. I also have completed a minor in mathematics. This website is in partial fulfillment of my senior thesis and research project that fulfills the requirements for completing Honors in the Discipline. My senior thesis is the final step in finishing my undergraduate career as a completer of the Elizabethtown College Honors Program.

Math is one of the subjects I am the most passionate about, so I was eager to conduct a research project incorporating my love for math with my professional interests as a future educator. I did extensive research over the course of two semesters specifically on what is referred to as underachievement in mathematics instruction. I believe, however, that underachievement is a made-up phenomenon because all students can excel in mathematics if provided with accessible learning opportunities that meet their learning needs. Providing students with the opportunities that they need can be time consuming and difficult, but it is our duty as educators to do so. With my research, I hope that future and current teachers will be able to choose a few strategies that might help their students master the difficult but incredibly important concept of multiplication. I hope my research serves as a resource and toolkit for teachers, in addition to sparking new, interesting, and innovative ideas within the mathematics classroom.
