Method 1: Multiplication Circles
What is it?
A visual display of multiplication that students can either make to demonstrate their understanding of multiplication or use pre-made ones to help in becoming fluent with their multiplication facts. They showcase the pattern created when you multiply numbers by the same factor (i.e. 4 x 1, 4 x 2, 4 x 3, 4 x 4, etc.)
Variation 1 - Student-Produced
Students can create their own multiplication circles using a variety of materials. Start with a 10-point circle and wrap the string around the appropriate point. For example, for a x3 circle, you would connect 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0 (repeatedly). This represents 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, and so on. This allows them to discover the patterns themselves.
